How do I create a Qmax test?

The new Create Test wizard in USMLE-Rx's Qmax is a straightforward 3-step process that will help you build tests that meet your needs.

Here's a short tutorial video to walk you through it.

• Begin by going to Qmax in the menu and select Create Test.
• At the top, you'll see each step: Test Settings, Choose Questions, and Finalize Test.

Test Settings

From the Test Settings, you're going to select the kind of questions you want to include.

• Ensure that the source is correct: either Step 1 or Step 2 CK.
• Select the question difficulty. By default, the system pre-selects medium and hard, but you can determine how difficult you want to make it.
• Adjust the Question Status, Answer Status, and Mark Status. When we say "used," we mean any question that has been included in a test you've created. If, say, you created a renal test with 40 questions on it, but only answered 1 question before you remembered that your dog had a vet appointment, all of the other questions on that test are considered used. If you delete that test, the status goes back to unused (unless those questions are found on other tests you've created.

Choose Questions

• There are two modes for Step 1 tests, either using the classic method of selecting questions based on disciplines and organ systems, or the new way using First Aid as your guide (only disciplines and organ systems are available for Step 2 CK Qmax).
• Using Disciplines and Organ systems, you can make your selections and narrow them down accordingly. For instance, if you're studying anatomy, you could focus on specific types of anatomy questions, such as cardio or neuro. 
• You can also choose by First Aid Topics, and select questions based on the chapters and sections within First Aid for the USMLE Step 1. 

Finalize Test

• Select the test mode: tutor, timed, or untimed
• Name the test.  If you opt not to name it, the system will automatically generate one for you.
• Determine how many questions you want on your test. If you choose to place fewer questions on the test than are available, the system will randomly pull questions from the set of available questions.
